This event introduced a key development for professionals working in public children law, particularly those representing parents, newborns, and local authorities.
Organised by the Public Law team at Coram Chambers, the event addressed the new protocols and procedures for managing short notice and urgent public law family court applications – including the nationally significant Newborn Baby Protocol.
Drawing on cross-sector collaboration between the senior judiciary, Professor Karen Broadhurst OBE from Lancaster University, and recent guidance from the Judiciary for England and Wales, the event covered the development and implementation of these protocols, strategies to reduce urgent short-notice applications, and the impact on practice for all parties.
Attendees benefited from key information shared by leading figures in the field and gained a practical understanding of the new standardised processes now shaping urgent child protection proceedings.
Born Into Care Book Launch
The first book of its kind, Born into Care, delivers a powerful critique of the legal, ethical and political systems that perpetuate a practice which disproportionately impacts marginalised families.
Edited by Professor Karen Broadhurst OBE, Emily Keddell, Linda Cusworth, Lucy Griffiths, and Claire Mason, the new book, ‘Born into Care Book: international perspectives on the removal of babies at birth’, is available via Bristol University Press here.
On Wednesday, 10 June, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm, the book is being launched in an online event. You can register for the event here.
