Demystifying the Court of Protection – A panel event for aspiring barristers

Discover life as a Court of Protection barrister

The Court of Protection Bar Association (CPBA) will host an online panel event for law students, pupils and new practitioners on 30 April 2026. The panel includes leading barristers: Emma Sutton KC from Serjeants’ Inn Chambers, Asma Nizami from Doughty Street Chambers, Laura Twist from St John’s Buildings, Kyle Squire from Coram Chambers, and Jordan Briggs from Doughty Street Chambers. Rhys Hadden of Serjeants’ Inn Chambers will chair the discussion.

Learn from top practitioners

This virtual event aims to demystify the Court of Protection. Attendees will hear first-hand from those who practise in this complex area of law. Emma, Asma, Laura, Kyle and Jordan will share their routes into the field, their day-to-day experiences and practical advice for developing a practice. The panel will discuss the realities of working in the Court of Protection – from case preparation to advocacy – and offer tips for those looking to specialise.

An extended Q&A session

There will be an extended opportunity to ask questions to the panel. Participants are encouraged to email questions in advance or bring them to the event. The CPBA invites anyone interested in attending to register by emailing info@cpba.org.uk. A link will then be sent before the event.

A unique chance to connect

This is a valuable opportunity for aspiring barristers to learn directly from a diverse panel. The event will help attendees understand the Court of Protection and how to access this rewarding area of practice.
