We are delighted at Coram Chambers to congratulate one of our barristers, Amanda Bewley, for completing the Paris Marathon on 12 April 2026. She ran the event to raise vital funds for Dementia UK, in honour of her father who has Dementia with Lewy Bodies, and in honour of all families affected by Dementia.
A determined training journey
Amanda’s marathon journey was far from straightforward. Weeks after announcing her participation months ago, she picked up an injury. Whilst not uncommon for runners to get injured, Amanda was not actually able to run for much of her training. Despite this significant setback, Amanda stayed committed to her goal. The alarm clock remained set for very early morning training sessions, and she endured the tedium of endless hours on the stepper, cross-trainer and bike at the gym.
Meanwhile, Amanda’s father’s difficult journey through Lewy Body Dementia saw him move from his family home to a nursing home. Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses were there for Amanda’s family before and during this most awful time.
The weeks before the marathon were not easy. A painful treatment offered some relief, but Amanda was still unsure whether her injury would prevent her from finishing the race. Confidence was low, yet she pressed on, motivated by love, the charity cause and the support she received from family, friends and colleagues.
Race day in Paris
On the big day, Amanda joined thousands of runners on the streets of Paris. Encouraged by the cheers of the crowds and powered by months of preparation, she was surprised and delighted to be able to run and complete the course, persisting for 5 hours, 23 minutes, and 11 seconds. The finish line was emotional, and receiving her medal marked the end of a remarkable journey.
Supporting Dementia UK
Amanda’s run was in aid of Dementia UK, a charity close to her heart. The funds raised will help Admiral Nurses provide expert support to families living with dementia. Many have already contributed, and Amanda expresses her deep gratitude for the encouragement and generosity shown throughout her challenge.
Amanda’s message of thanks
In her own words, Amanda shared, “Thank you so much from me and my family, and from all the families whose lives you will have helped when they needed it most. Your donations make a real difference to people’s lives.”
