Georgina specialises in financial remedies on divorce, relationship breakdown and contentious children cases involving welfare issues, international relocation and abduction.
As part of her finance practice, Georgina is regularly instructed in maintenance disputes and in child support claims under Schedule 1. A tenacious but pragmatic negotiator, Georgina has particular expertise in Private FDRs.
As a children law specialist, she has extensive experience in conducting fact findings in cases where there have been allegations of domestic abuse and in complex cases involving parental alienation. Georgina is regularly instructed in international relocation cases, recently successfully opposing a relocation to Australia and securing costs.
Regarded as a strong, highly knowledgeable and skilful advocate, Georgina is also noted for her real flair for putting people at their ease.
Georgina has just completed her mediator training and hopes, shortly to be able to accept instructions as a mediator.
Experience
Georgina’s practice encompasses all areas of private family law relating to both finance and children, with a focus on financial remedy upon divorce, Schedule 1 and complex children cases.
As an experienced finance practitioner, Georgina is regularly instructed in maintenance disputes and child support claims and has particular expertise in Private FDRs.
As a children law specialist, she has extensive experience in conducting fact findings in cases where there have been allegations of domestic abuse and in complex cases involving parental alienation.
Often her work has an international dimension, and Georgina is regularly instructed in international relocation cases, recently successfully opposing a relocation to Australia and securing costs.
Georgina is a strong advocate and a tenacious but pragmatic negotiator.
She appears in the High Court and Court of Appeal.
Georgina has recently completed her mediator training and hopes, shortly, to be able to accept instructions in this capacity. This is a role to which she will bring her significant experience and expertise in high conflict cases to enable parties to reach agreement in mediation.
Before commencing pupillage, Georgina was employed by Hugh James in Cardiff, working on high net worth divorce cases and child abduction cases.
Recent cases include:
• A private FDR, in which she acted for H in a case involving substantial assets; the FDR was successful;
• In a protracted private law children matter, securing contact for a father against whom there were numerous allegations, culminating in a fact finding in which she secured a finding of parental alienation;
• A long running dispute in which Georgina acted in both the finances and the children proceedings, culminating in an application to relocate permanently in Australia; Georgina successfully opposed the application and secured costs;
• In the High Court, in an application under the inherent jurisdiction concerning an alleged abduction;
• In the High Court, successfully opposing an application for permission to appeal a financial order;
• Negotiating, advising on, and drafting a detailed financial settlement in high value financial proceedings following the dissolution of a civil partnership;
• In the High Court, in an application under the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985 for the summary return of two children;
• In the Court of Appeal in a case about the court’s jurisdiction under Brussel’s IIA;
• In the High Court, in a three-day contested jurisdiction dispute, determining the habitual residence of a child as a preliminary issue;
• In the High Court, in a case concerning substantial assets and an application for a world-wide freezing order;
• Advice in relation to a pre-nuptial agreement involving a lottery win.
Georgina lectures in-house and externally and gives regular lectures and seminars for both the Family Finance and Children teams, including on Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989, International Relocation and Marital Agreements. Georgina also contributes to Family Law Week and is Assistant Editor for Family Affairs (FLBA magazine).
