The case challenged a family court’s earlier decision, which had dismissed a mother’s request for a fact-finding hearing regarding serious allegations of domestic abuse. Alex argued powerfully on behalf of the mother, making it clear that, in 2025, such allegations must be taken seriously when considering the welfare of children. The high court accepted Alex’s submissions, with the judge highlighting that these allegations are central to determining any risk to the children involved. As a result, the high court ordered the family court to hold a proper fact-finding hearing.
This decision marks an important moment for family law and child welfare, reflecting the need for the justice system to fully recognise the impact of domestic abuse. Alex’s advocacy in this matter was instrumental and has been praised in the national press.
