Rachel Cooper spoke at Resolution’s Modern Family Forum on Legal Aspects of platonic co-parenting and polyamorous families. The forum brought together leading practitioners, academics and individuals with lived experience to discuss a range of topics, including platonic co-parenting, polyamorous families, trans parenting, and the representation of young people.
Joining Rachel were Andrew Powell KC, James Netto, Dr Vasanti Jadva, and Carrie-Anne Walker.
Andrew Powell KC delivered a Modern Families Case Update at today’s event, reviewing key developments in modern family case law from 2025 to date. His session covered recent and important case law across surrogacy, adoption, declarations of parentage and parental responsibility, considered through the prism of assisted reproduction.
Andrew was then joined by James Netto in a session exploring legal approaches to trans parenting and the representation of children and young people.
Andrew Powell KC examined the legal aspects of trans parenting, while James Netto focused on how children and young people engage with proceedings, including how competence is assessed, the pros and cons of separate representation, and the specific considerations involved when working with transgender young people.
