Alex Clift, barrister at Coram Chambers, has been featured by the Bar Council for England and Wales during Pride Month. The Bar Council published Alex’s reflections in a Q&A article about their path to the Bar and the importance of support in the legal profession.

Alex shares honest insights on their journey, including early highlights and challenges.
They stressed the value of asking for help and making space for oneself. Alex noted, “I used to feel quite guilty and burdensome for that, and people would reassure me that they genuinely wanted to help. Now I am at the Bar I really get it – I had help to get here and I definitely feel like I need to pass on the baton.”
Championing LGBTQ+ inclusion
At Coram Chambers, 18% of members identify as LGBTQ+. Alex’s experience as an LGBTQ+ barrister has shaped their approach to practice and advocacy.
In the Bar Council’s article, Alex discussed shifting attitudes in the legal sector and highlighted the importance of visible role models.
Recognised in the legal sector
Alex was also named in Legally Queerly’s 2026 list of lesbian and queer professionals in law. The Q&A covered advice for aspiring LGBTQ+ barristers, thoughts on sector changes, and a call to celebrate supportive colleagues.
