We are delighted to announce that Martha Cover has been announced as one of the top three candidates for this year’s prestigious Legal Aid Barrister of the Year award.
Martha, a long-time advocate of access to justice and legal aid, was selected based on her extensive involvement in the legal aid community, the calibre of her work in precedent-setting matters, and her dedication to providing excellent client service on legal aid matters.
Each year, the Legal Aid Lawyer Awards (LALYs) are hosted by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group. In its 16th year, this competition was highly competitive with over 800 nominations coming in for 11 awards. Director Carol Storer said, ‘The LALYs are known for celebrating those lawyers whose skills and commitment directly transform the lives of so many vulnerable people – and rightly so.’
Martha is well recognized as a leader in family law and publicly-funded work, focusing not only on delivering legal services to low income individuals, but ensuring that these individuals receive high quality representation at the highest levels of court. She has been involved on many landmark family law cases, working on publicly funded matters that ensure public bodies are held accountable, families are not unnecessarily separated, and that an outcome achieved is truly what is best for the child.
In addition to her client commitments, Martha is a regular commentator on children law matters, has given evidence before parliamentary committees, co-chairs the ALC, and has been a member of several family law groups.
The LALY winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on July 17, to be presented by Baroness Doreen Lawrence OBE.
Please join us in wishing Martha well-deserved congratulations!
