On Monday, April 16, Greg Williams of our Family Finance team taught another Advanced ToLATA seminar – this time, held in London. The seminar was well received, attended by a fully booked room of 36 family law professionals working in nearby areas!
ToLATA cases generally concern unmarried couples or family members who either cohabit or invest in purchased property and ultimately find themselves in a dispute. These disputes are set to grow given rising market prices and the fact that younger couples are often seeking financial assistance without consideration of potential third-party interests. Many lay clients have misconceptions about these types of cases, and division of sole or joint name properties, rising asset values, forced sale and equitable accounting can become very complex.
Greg’s seminar welcomes those with varying degrees of ToLATA knowledge, and aims to improve the skill and knowledge of family law solicitors working in cohabitation disputes, so that they can handle matters with comfort and expertise.
Having developed a niche expertise in ToLATA disputes, Greg has led several of these seminars in locations around the UK, and will continue to administer the course throughout 2018. Present scheduling includes:
April 27 – Southampton
May 18 – Leeds
October 5 – London
October 19 – Birmingham
