Victoria Haberfield

Barrister

About

Victoria specialises in public and private children law. She is known for her thorough preparation, skilled advocacy and sensitive approach to vulnerable clients and witnesses.

Victoria represents all parties within care and adoption proceedings. In addition, Victoria is often instructed on behalf of children and parents in complex and high conflict private law disputes.

Experience

Victoria is experienced in representing parents, children, and local authorities at all stages of care proceedings and in contested adoption cases. Often, she is instructed on multi day cases.

Recently, Victoria appeared in the case of Re A (flawed placement application) [2020] representing a mother and successfully opposed a placement order application and obtained a costs order against the local authority due to serious failings in the preparation of its placement application.

Victoria also has a busy private children law practice representing parents and children. She is frequently instructed in high-conflict cases and fact-finding hearings where the court is grappling with cross allegations of domestic abuse and alienation. Victoria also has expertise in cases involving allegations of serious sexual abuse.

Victoria is an experienced conference speaker and is happy to provide training in house. She also has experience of training social workers in preparation for giving evidence in care proceedings.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Victoria was a paralegal within a busy local authority child protection team.

Following completion of her degree and Masters in Philosophy, Victoria ran the Aim higher Associates mentoring project in Greater Manchester, training undergraduates as mentors in schools and colleges to widen participation in higher education.
