Sheila Donn of Philcox Gray

We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Sheila Donn, senior partner and child law specialist at Philcox Gray.  Sheila was a very skilled and talented solicitor,  who especially excelled at representing troubled children and young people.  Whether as a worthy opponent in court, or as an instructing solicitor, Sheila had the admiration, affection and respect of all who worked with her. She brought her great experience, dedication and skill to every case she took on. Her forensic ability, coupled with an empathic understanding of her clients, made her the first port of call for the most difficult cases and the most troubled children and young people. It was always a pleasure to be instructed by Sheila or to appear in a case beside her. She had charm, a generous spirit and wisdom, and smoothed many ruffled feathers, in court and in the corridor. She was a kind, loyal and funny friend. She will be greatly missed by all of us who knew her and worked with her.

David Boyd writes:

There is a remote and beautiful bay and beach called Camus nan Gaell on the South side of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula overlooking the Sound of Mull. Behind the beach is a large Neolithic standing stone, a chambered cairn and an impressive avenue of eight Sycamore trees. To get there you either come ashore by boat, as legend has it St Columba did when he first arrived in Scotland, or you descend on foot by a steep track a long way below the nearest road. When I was there about 12 or 14 years ago with Karen and Charlie we were the only people around. It was ancient, holy ground and a hauntingly beautiful, deserted place. As we were leaving to climb back up to the road two children appeared with a woman I didn’t immediately recognise who called my name. Sheila and her family had a place on the Peninsula. She loved being there. I will not forget her or that unexpected meeting.
