Susan Stamford practises
in child care law - both public and private law
and adoption.
Su has particular
expertise in acting for difficult and/or
vulnerable clients including those with anger
management issues and drug or alcohol problems.
In addition, she has represented a significant
number of clients with learning difficulties
and/or mental health issues, whether instructed
directly or by the Official Solicitor.
Recent examples in public law proceedings
include representing a mother with learning
difficulties in a very long-running case that
was transferred to the High Court and
representing a father who had suffered
significant brain damage as the result of an
accident.
Su undertakes all aspects
of private law child care work. She is
currently involved in a number of difficult
cases in which a guardian has been appointed on
behalf of the children.
Su recently represented a
father in a long running best interests case,
the subject of the proceedings being his
severely mentally incapacitated adult daughter.
She has a keen interest in this area of
practice.
Prior to going to
university and coming to the Bar, Su spent
several years in residential social work (in
both the voluntary and statutory sectors).
Over a period of about ten years, she worked
with a number of different client groups
including homeless people, young offenders, drug
users and people with mental health problems.
